RMIT University offers a series of short courses for people interested in gaining skills and knowledge in sound, music, lighting and live production to support their careers, interests and hobbies. These short courses are taught by professionals with extensive industry experience and are open to students over the age of 16.

Deb Hatton

Course: Production Lighting for Live Events

Deborah has 26 years experience in lighting, and has been teaching since 2000. She is best known for her lighting for live-performance, and toured with Debra Byrne and Vika Bull for "Tapestry - The Songs of Carole King."
Deborah is tertiary-qualified in lighting; and has worked across most lighting platforms. Deb is currently the lighting manager and lighting designer for The Memo Music Hall and is a current TechIES member of the IES of Australia and New Zealand.


In the Production Lighting for Live Events course you’ll learn how to set up, record and operate lighting cues and effects. You will explore how to mix colour and utilise different types of lighting in order to design and achieve creative lighting effects. How to safely prepare, install and test lighting equipment will also be covered. RMIT have a range of industry-standard lighting equipment to access and familiarise with during the course; including intelligent and generic lighting control and fixtures.
