RMIT Single Courses

Single courses are subjects from degree programs that are available for you to study even if you’re not enrolled as a university student. You take the same classes and complete the same assessment tasks as enrolled RMIT University students.

A single course could be ideal for you if you wish to:

  • gain experience as a university student
  • check if you really like the subject matter before committing to a degree
  • undertake a single course to complement your degree
  • obtain credits or exemptions when applying or reapplying for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree (after successfully completing a relevant single course) — not applicable to all single courses.

Previous Students

This is what some of our students had to say.

Abbey Murray

Course(s): Programming Fundamentals

"Completing Programming Fundamentals was a great way for me to develop skills in new areas at work. Undertaking a single course gave me the right amount of information, practice and support to confidently apply my new skills in the workplace."

Tom Abbott

Course(s): Engineering Mathematics B

"I would recommend this subject for those who need to improve their maths skills for their profession or for future studies. Many of the concepts were explained in a way that related to real-world engineering situations, which gave me a good scope of where the maths can be applied. Completing this single course enabled me to be accepted into an Engineering program at RMIT."

Michael Francis

Course(s): Painting Elective

"I was quite nervous about being out of my depth working with ‘real’ art students but I discovered that there were lots of students enrolled whose main study area was not art. I liked the fact that I was enrolled in a formal course with a clear structure, an end date and a folio of my own work. I had two lecturers in the course and both of them were excellent. They were knowledgeable, personable, encouraging and challenging. Doing the course gave me so much pleasure and a real sense of achievement."
