Cambridge CELTA Certificate

Overview

RMIT English Worldwide offers the Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA). Cambridge CELTA is a widely recognised pre-service qualification for teachers of English in Australia and overseas, administered by the University of Cambridge. The primary aim of the course is to develop communicative teaching and classroom management skills for people with little or no previous Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) experience.

Course content

The five units of the syllabus focus on the preparation, delivery and content of ESOL teaching programs as well as the knowledge required for teaching language and language skills. This program teaches you the principles of effective teaching, provides a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners and gives you hands-on teaching practice.

Outcome

The course aims to enables candidates to acquire essential subject knowledge and familiarity with the principles of effective teaching, gain a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners and demonstrate their ability to apply their learning in a real teaching context.

Pre-requisites

Min 18 years of age, eligible for tertiary education (i.e. Year 12 or equivalent), sufficient competency in English & meet the min reqs of the pre-interview task.

Materials supplied

All relevant course materials are included.

Materials to bring

Pen/pencil and notebook.

Award

Certificates are issued by Cambridge ESOL accompanied by a final report written by the course tutors

Additional notes

Trainees must attend 100 per cent of the course. Assessment is continuous and the key components are:
• Successful completion of teaching practice
• Regular written assignments and lesson plans
• Course participation
