Overview

By law, under Part 5.1 of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007, a person must successfully undertake construction induction training before working at a construction site in Victoria.

You will be enrolled and studying the new unit of competency, CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry which is the mandatory work health and safety requirements for those undertaking construction work.


You will gain knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent industry or harm to self and others. The course covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies.

Course content

The course covers the following topics:
• OHS legislative requirements,
• Safe work practices,
• Construction hazards and control measures,
• OHS communication and reporting processes,
• Role of designated OHS personnel,
• Safety signs and symbols,
• Relevant authorities for reporting hazards and incidents,
• OHS incident response procedures,
• Emergencies, PPE and Fire safety equipment.

This one day course is suited to anyone working on a construction site.

Important Information

All learners undertaking nationally recognised training are required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) issued by the Australian Government. If you do not have a USI please google the following link to create one http://www.usi.gov.au

As you will be studying a nationally unit of competency, you will be contacted by Academic Services regarding the online enrolment steps.

Outcome

At the end of the course, participants should be able to understand:
• applicable OHS legislative and safety requirements for construction work including duty of care,
• common construction hazards, risk assessment procedures and application of the hierarchy of control,
• OHS communication processes and role of OHS committee,
• general procedures for responding to incidents and emergencies.

There are no prerequisites.

Award

On successful completion, participants will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for “CPCCOHS1001A Work Safely in the construction industry”.

Assessment is included in course fee.

Important
Once you have registered and paid for your course through the RMIT Short Courses website, there will be an additional enrolment step. This is because you will be studying a nationally endorsed unit(s) of competency. You will be contacted shortly by our Administration team regarding the next step for online enrolment into an accredited unit(s).
When the Administration team contacts you, they will ask for your DOB and Citizenship to set you up in our RMIT University recording system. You will then be sent instructions on how to complete the online enrolment for a unit of competency, which is relatively simple, but if you have issues the Administration team will be very happy to assist.
