HSR Refresher OHS Training Course

Overview

Workplace violence is a real issue in many workplaces. This interactive training course approved by WorkSafe includes relevant case studies and activities where HSRs can learn more about participating in the identification, prevention and control of the risks associated with work related violence.

Under section 67 of the Victorian OHS Act 2004 an employer, if requested, must allow an elected HSR and elected Deputy HSR to attend a WorkSafe approved “HSR Refresher OHS Training” course on paid time, pay the cost of the course and any other associated costs.

HSR/DHSRs can choose the course they wish to attend in consultation with their employer.

RMIT University is approved to deliver the "HSR Refresher OHS Training" course (V2.0).

Course content

The course content includes:

• the value of being an HSR– a review,
• risk management,
• incident management.

Ideal for

This HSR Refresher course is designed for HSRs and deputy HSRs. Although Managers, Supervisors, Health and safety committee members and other people involved with health and safety in the workplace may also benefit from attending.

Total course hours are 7 plus breaks.

Outcome

At the end of the course, participants should:
• understand and confidently apply the OHS Act,
• gain current knowledge of the OHS responsibilities in the workplace,
• identify what reckless endangerment means and to who it applies and,
• know how to respond to work-related violence.

Pre-requisites

HSRs and deputy HSRs must complete the HSR Initial OHS Training before attending the Refresher course.

Materials supplied

Participants will receive a WorkSafe Victoria Learner Guide and additional resources.

Materials to bring

All resources and materials are provided.

Award

Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance on completion of the course.

Additional notes

All trainers have a solid, detailed understanding of the Victorian OHS Act (2004), in particular all sections relevant to the purpose of HSRs and their powers, protections and entitlements.

Morning tea is provided. Participants can bring their own lunch or purchase from the local restaurants.
