Rhinoceros - Level 1

This course offers an introduction to Rhinoceros, with emphasis on workflows for three dimensional (3D) modelling using Rhino commands with a basic introduction to the Grasshopper plugin.

The course will cover basic 2d drawing, tracing & drafting techniques & their application to creating 3d form & surfacing. It will include a practical guide to creating models for 3D printing & getting those files printed.

The course will encourage interdisciplinary projects covering a number of industries; sessions will be delivered with diversity in approaches ranging from demonstrations & practical work.

Course content

  • Introduction to the interface and navigation of Rhino 3D
  • Drawing, creating and editing geometry using curves, arcs and using 2D Rhino commands
  • Methods of generating 3D geometry and editing tools
  • Use of Rhino for creating sculptural forms
  • Basic introduction to the principles of Grasshopper and parametric design tools
  • Creating forms for 3D printing & options for getting files printed

Ideal for

The course will suit people who are interested in developing 3D computer-aided modelling & design skills using Rhinoceros. The course focuses on workflows for creating 3D modelling techniques, so will suit users across a range of industries.
