Undertake an introductory course in the use of acrylic and oil paints as a fine art medium. You will complete a series of projects through which you will learn to prepare paints, mix colours, develop a range of mark making techniques, prepare painting surfaces and create resolved paintings.
In this course you will complete a series of painting tasks designed to develop a skill set necessary to resolve paintings using acrylic and oil paints. These skills include: painting from observation, colour theory, palette mixing, surface preparation, development of ideas and ability to reference contemporary art practice where appropriate. You will work in monochrome and in colour. You will be introduced to various concepts such as perspective and abstraction. Relevant occupational health and safety procedures will be taught and observed.
School leavers, mature aged participants, current RMIT students.
Participants must wear sturdy, enclosed footwear to all of these studio sessions. Please be advised that those who attend with inappropriate footwear, e.g. sandals, will be turned away from the session.
Students will receive a transcript with a grade in the nationally recognised unit of competency.
Studio consumables will be supplied. A list of materials to be purchased including brushes and paints required, costing no more than $300 will be supplied upon registration of interest.
Pen/pencil and notebook, plus items on list (details to be confirmed).
Participants will be awarded an RMIT Statement of Participation and a transcript.
