This short course is the number 2 in a sequence of courses to develop a better knowledge of jewellery design and making. The objective will be to learn about contemporary jewellery design and practice and to delve into the material processes of Gold & Silvermithing. Participants will work creatively from original drawings using essential processes to explore contemporary forms in metal.
Participants will participate in designing and making jewellery objects utilising introductory Gold & Silversmithing techniques. Through a series of learning activities participants will develop ideas and designs through drawings and assemblages; Experience technical processes and working with metals specifically related to Gold & Silversmithing practice; Use different metal fabrication techniques such as sawing, filing, cold-joining, riveting and soldering to make a jewellery piece.
This course is suited to participants who attended the first course or those who already have some basic experience in a Gold & Silversmithing studio and who are interested in learning more about jewellery design and making.
Course leader Claire McArdle is a contemporary jeweller who has exhibited internationally since 2011 in Hong Kong, USA, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Austria and The Netherlands. McArdle has received numerous awards and grants including First Prize, Contemporary Wearables '13.
