Recording - Capturing the Perfect Sound

Overview

Want to learn to capture the best possible sound using the latest in recording technology and practise recording a live band?

In this practical course you will learn sound basics and acoustics, get hands-on training in setting up a recording session, signal flow, microphones and headphone mix.

Through this two-day course, you'll get involved in a multi-track studio recording session with a live band and learn about tweaking faders, setting EQs and operating the industry standard, high resolution, hard disk recording software, Avid Pro Tools.

• Navigating the mixing console
• A multi-track recording session with an indie band

Ideal for

Musicians or non-musicians who wish to experience a modern recording studio and the processes involved in recording a great sounding track. It could also be for people who want to get the most out of their home recording studio. This course is suited to both younger students (15+) and those of all ages who are wishing to explore this field further. This course is a great way for students to get an understanding of how RMIT teaches Sound Production.

Outcome

Throughout the course you will gain an understanding of the recording process and an introduction to the hardware and software that are utilised within the audio and music industry. You will establish a solid grounding in this field that will be useful for your own journey into audio production or as the basis for further study.

Pre-requisites

Age must be 15 or older. Best to be fairly confident on computers.

All materials will be provided.

Pen/pencil and notebook. 

Award

Participants will be awarded an RMIT Statement of Participation.

Completion of this course will not guarantee entry into an RMIT Program.

Course Presenter - Matt Voigt
Matt is a studio recording expert with over 20 years of experience in the music industry. A large part of his career has been spent producing recordings at Melbourne's infamous Sing Sing Recording Studios where he has worked with many successful bands including The Living End, Powderfinger, Paul Kelly and Kiss. Matt won an ARIA award for his recording work on the film Lantana and was also nominated for an ARIA for his work with The Blackeyed Susans www.mattvoigt.com.au
