Music Production - Creating Your Own Tracks

Overview

Would you like to arrange a song or music track and edit and mix it using the latest industry based music production software? This course combines composing, mixing and remixing techniques to take your music to where you want to go.

You will get to create music with synthesisers, samplers, looping and recording using Pro Tools, while also exploring the world of digital audio editing and instrument and audio processing plug-ins.

Throughout this course the emphasis is on learning sound modification techniques to realise the best results for your project.

Ideal for

Musicians, DJs, electronic musicians, vocalists or even music producers with no instrument skills who wish to achieve the best results in music production and composition they can. Age must be 16 or older.

Outcome

This course will be delivered utilising Digital Audio Workstations including Pro Tools and all necessary hardware.

During this practical course you will create your own music, then mix and master tracks to a CD or digital file format of choice.

Pre-requisites

Basic computer skills and an interest in music production. All study will be completed on Macs.

Materials supplied

All relevant course materials are included.

The teacher can assist students to export a session from another program (Logic Pro, Garageband format or as .wav tracks) before the first class.

Materials to bring

Pen/pencil & notebook.

Headphones with a 1/4 inch jack

USB stick or portable hard drive.
*Optional - bring a project you may wish to work on in Pro Tools (Projects from other software can be exported)

Award

Participants will be awarded an RMIT Certificate of Completion.

Mark Kelson
Mark Kelson is best known as the front man for Melbourne based outfit The Eternal. Over their more than a decade-long career, The Eternal have released five full-length efforts, three DVD's and a live album to worldwide critical acclaim. Mark is now an established Sound Engineer, Mixer, Producer and increasingly teaching and supervising within the Diploma of Music Industry (Sound Production) at RMIT University.
Simon Moro
Music producer and mixer Simon Moro graduated from RMIT’s audio production course in 2000 and has worked solidly in the industry ever since. Simon has recorded two ARIA nominated works, as well as tracks charting highly on the ARIA Charts and JJJ’s Hottest 100. He has worked with a diverse range of artists including Anthony Callea, Taylor Henderson, Silvie Paladino, James Keogh (Vance Joy), Joel Quatermain (Eskimo Joe) and Chris Lilley on the popular TV series Ja’mie: Private School Girl and Jonah From Tonga.
