Learn how to use SketchUp, a free 3D modelling program that's fun and fast to use. Useful for architects, designers (interior, industrial, graphic, furniture, etc), yet also easy enough and cheap enough to be used by home renovators.
Design buildings, machines, furniture, lights, cars - anything you can imagine. This course will focus on modelling buildings and other everyday objects that are useful, practical and easy to understand. You can even make objects for 3D printing. SketchUp has the shortest learning curve of any 3D software.

Suited to architects, landscape architects, draftspeople, builders, interior designers, graphic designers, industrial designers, photographers & photo editors who want to add 3D objects to photos, real estate agents, home renovators, students studying design courses such as architecture, interior design etc, people who are interested in studying a design course in future, people interested in making models for 3D printing.
Completion of this course will not guarantee entry into an RMIT Program.
Graduates of the 3 day SketchUp course will be able to use the basic SketchUp tools to build furniture such as kitchen cabinets and simple buildings with gable or hip roofs.
Students need to be able to use a computer mouse (with two buttons and a scroll wheel) and keyboard. No prior architectural or building knowledge is needed. This course is suitable for all ages.
Students will be working in a MAC lab. Notes will be supplied in PDF format during the course.
Bring a USB key (flash drive) or portable hard drive to backup your work. Bring pen, pencil & paper to take notes and to draw simple diagrams. Drawing skills not necessary!
Participants will be awarded an RMIT Statement of Participation.
Course Presenter - Joseph Brabet has an Architecture degree and has been teaching people how to use 3D design software for over 20 years. He has worked in Architecture, Graphic Design, Product Design and Multimedia Design in Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, Germany and France. In addition to teaching design at RMIT and Swinburne Universities, Joseph is a professional photographer. Completion of this course will not guarantee entry into an RMIT Program.
