Website Design 2 - Beyond the Basics


Web design is a constantly changing industry - it's important to stay up to date with current methods and techniques.

In this course you will build on skills introduced in Website Design 1 - The Full Overview, going into the code in depth, and writing your own HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript from scratch. You will learn how to use cutting edge tools to streamline the development process, including CSS preprocessors and frameworks. You'll learn how to create sophisticated page layouts that look great on desktops and on mobile devices. You'll also discover how to utilise your skills for EDM design and use coding techniques for animation and interactive media.

Understanding how all of this stuff works can be a challenge. This course will not only introduce you to cutting-edge web design techniques, but will give you the confidence to use them to design and create your own website. By the end of the course you will have learnt how to code and integrate HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery and have a deeper understanding of how modern websites work. Most importantly, during the course you will have the opportunity to begin building your own site with expert guidance.


Basic HTML and CSS coding skills are required, as introduced in Website Design 1. You should be able to edit code with some confidence and have a working knowledge of website structure and navigation.

Materials supplied

All relevant course materials are supplied, including PDF and project files.

Materials to bring

Bring a USB stick, so you can take away working project files with you each week. If you like to take notes, bring paper and pen! 


Participants will be awarded an RMIT Statement of Participation.

Specialising in web development, multimedia, email marketing and graphic design applications, Paul has been building online content since the early days of the web. Paul was co-director of Ubiq Creative Training, a London based company delivering short courses to web designers and the wider graphic design community. Since moving to Melbourne, he has continued to work as an expert trainer, consultant and developer with a wide range of clients.
