Be introduced to the wonderful art of millinery in our design studio under the guidance of our expert tutor. Learn the artisanal fine skills and foundational specialist sewing skills of a milliner as you produce a fascinator/hatinator for a special occasion, wedding, the spring carnival or for adding that special touch to an everyday outfit.
Learn about hat fitting and proportion as you design a fascinator that is simple elegance or really conceptual. The fascinator lends itself to either perfectly.
You will progress through the millinery process of design, blocking, stiffening, covering, trimming and adding embellishments to create your headwear masterpiece.
This course is perfect for students who are interested in millinery and in making unique and wonderful headpieces. It is ideal for students who may already have done a fashion short course and want to do further studies and extend their practice. Basic hand sewing skills are required but students do not need to have done a formal sewing course previously and do not need to be practiced in machine sewing as this course teaches hand skills only.
For health & safety reasons, students need to wear closed toe shoes, no thongs or sandals and long hair is to be tied back and no long necklaces or scarves worn during class
