Fashion Business: Marketing Essentials

Overview

Starting a new fashion business and finding your dream customers requires clever use of modern marketing and PR methods. In this hands-on class you’ll learn the practical skills you need to discover who your target customer is & how to reach them as well as being introduced to the major marketing channels available including PR, social and email. We’ll also discuss content marketing and digital advertising. This course is perfect for solo designers and fashion businesses who want to find the right customers and market their products and make more sales.

Course content

Morning session - Customer Discovery and Marketing Channels:

  • Create customer personas
  • Create an empathy map for each market subset
  • Create a customer journey and choose the best marketing channels for your business.
  • Describe your target market and several subsets of this market

Afternoon session - Best Practice Marketing and PR:

  • Choose the best marketing channels for their business
  • Utilise best practices for email, social media, PR and content marketing
  • Create PR, content marketing, social and email marketing campaigns
  • Measure results

Outcome

Students will leave the course with a better understanding of how to identify their target customer and the practical skills to plan marketing campaigns to reach them.

We use the principles of active learning. Students undertake practical and fun exercises in this hands-on workshop style class. You’ll be introduced to the key concepts and tools before working in collaborative groups to try it yourself. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and receive individual help.

 

Pre-requisites

It would be useful if students have a business or a business idea.

Award

Participants will be emailed an RMIT Statement of Participation on course completion.

Marina Cook has over 20 years of marketing experience, with 8 years being involved with online digital marketing. She is a Digital Marketing Strategist at Motivating Marketing, and has written Digital Strategy Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses for RMIT. Her focus incorporates digital strategies including social media, eNewsletter campaigns, web design & development with large and small companies in most industries. Her knowledge and approach provides students/entrepreneurs with practical skills to move forward in their career.
