This introductory course is for students with limited or no prior knowledge of Arabic. The course covers a range of topics designed to develop basic proficiency in spoken and written Arabic, as well as practical knowledge of Arabic culture in different personal and social contexts. The course is delivered in a communicative and practical way and leads to language proficiency and cultural knowledge for workplace application. This course will also develop students' confidence to pursue further language studies and to use Arabic in work or business situations.

This introductory course is for students with limited or no prior knowledge of Arabic.
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to carry out a range of basic social and workplace transactions such as participate in short, basic conversational exchanges, provide personal information, and use basic expressions for visiting and receiving visitors etc. Students wil be familiar with the basic writing system of Arabic and demonstrate an understanding of cultural differences where appropriate and an understanding of effective cross-cultural communication.
Course materials will be provided in class. Recommended textbook details will be given in class, but purchasing a textbook is not required.

Khalaf Greis is an experienced educator with a strong passion for language teaching. He has taught at primary, secondary and university levels.
Khalaf is an Area Manager with the Victorian School of Languages Department of Education Early Childhood Development. He teaches Arabic to officers at the Victorian Police Force and adults at RMIT University, as well as Teaching Methodology and Curriculum Development. He was a group leader for the ELTFArabic study program in 2011 and 2012.
