Translating Skills for NAATI Certification


This course meets the pre-requisite training requirements set by NAATI for anyone wishing to sit for NAATI Certified Translator Certification test.

From January 2018, NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) has implemented a new Certification system. In addition to changes to testing formats, NAATI will now require that applicants complete a training component before applying for testing. This course will prepare candidates for the test and meet NAATI's minimum training and English proficiency requirements.

Course content

The course includes language specific tutorials which will provide feedback to individual students and offer an overview and preparation strategies for the NAATI Certified Translator test.
Students will complete 4 units which will cover:

  • Build glossaries for translating and interpreting assignments (PSPTIS002)
  • Prepare to translate and interpret (PSPTIS003)
  • Apply codes and standards to ethical practice (PSPTIS001)
  • Read and analyse special purpose English texts to be translated (PSPTIS064)

The online sessions will include live (synchronous) sessions as well as online moderated forums and other online activities and assessments. All activities will be practical and students will be assessed through forum discussions and translation techniques.

This course will provide students basic understanding of what the translation profession is about and training of translation techniques.

This course meets the pre-requisite training and English proficiency requirements set by NAATI for those wishing to sit for the translator certification tests after course completion.


You will be required to meet English proficiency requirements before enrolment. This is necessary to ensure you have the required level of English to complete the course, and because NAATI has set an English proficiency level for all test candidates.
