Our Strategic Problem Solving course will help you to build the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will enable you to engage at a strategic level. Over 6 weeks you will practice identifying problems and synthesising issue trees. You will use recognised strategic frameworks to complete analysis and develop solutions. Throughout the course you will build your capabilities in problem definition, communications and strategic analysis, all culminating in a credential from RMIT University when you complete the course.
Our Strategic Problem Solving course is ideal for:
- Aspiring and emerging leaders looking to build strategic capability to access more senior roles.
- Existing team or functional leaders seeking to expand their problem solving skills in interpreting and executing a strategy to drive better outcomes and enhance their strategic agility.
Throughout this course, you will:
- Describe your role within the context of an organisational strategy
- Appraise an organisation’s strategy against recognised frameworks
- Develop a problem statement and break it down into a prioritised issues tree for an organisational issue
- Provide recommendations and associated rationale in response to the problem statement
Over 6 weeks you will practice identifying problems and synthesising issue trees. You will use recognised strategic frameworks to analyse and evaluate your organisation's strategy and approaches to solutions.
At the end of the course, you can choose to complete an assessment to be awarded an RMIT credential, validating your skills and competency in the area. In your final project, you will present and justify your recommendations in response to your problem statement using a recognised strategic framework.

I think the importance of strategic problem solving in the workforce is that it allows us to break down a problem into its many components to be to then unpack it. It helps you challenge the status quo, it helps you trying to understand you know for what you're solving for is that actually the right thing and is it going to align the organizational priorities.
You have to be able to solve problems to find problems and work work through those kinds of processes it's just completely critical for most roles these days. Soft skills will continue to be in demand over the next five years as they complement a lot of the technical skills that are arising due to technology disruptions. It's dealing with people it's being you know resilient in your in your role, it's understanding how to influence people how to look at problems and solve them in an effective way.
The soft skills in terms of how you communicate how you interact with stakeholders, how you help them solve problems is going to be so key in terms of standing out and help to actually solve for those problems.
