In recent years, the sustainability and climate-related reporting landscape has significantly shifted, creating new obligations for organisations both globally and locally.

With the introduction of the International Sustainability Standards Board's IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 (ISSB), and the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) S1 and S2, companies are under increasing pressure to respond to and act upon the reporting mandates. The standards are asking organisations to consider the impact of their climate-related and sustainability risks and opportunities on their financial performance, both now and in the future. They are designed to create consistency, transparency and accountability for climate-related reporting.

Deloitte and RMIT Online have designed this course to empower you to identify risks, unearth opportunities, and devise strategies that tackle financial and climate sustainability challenges head-on. Prepare to thrive amidst a changing landscape with a course that lays the groundwork for understanding and navigating evolving sustainability and climate-related standards.

This course has been developed to align with the four key pillars of the climate and sustainability standards:

Governance: the governance processes, controls and procedures the entity uses to monitor and manage sustainability-related risks and opportunities.
Strategy: the approach the entity uses to manage sustainability-related risks and opportunities.
Risk management: the processes the entity uses to identify, assess, prioritise and monitor sustainability-related risks and opportunities.
Metrics and targets: the entity’s performance in relation to sustainability-related risks and opportunities, including progress towards any targets the entity has set or is required to meet by law or regulation.

I think it's really important to look at climate sustainability not just as a risk to an organization but to look at the opportunity that it brings. There are climate and sustainability risks that companies are facing and by leaning into this embedding it into your strategy, organizations have a powerful opportunity to set themselves up to be successful for the long term.

This course will equip you and your organization both from a compliance point of view with respect to climate and sustainability disclosures. But much much more importantly will equip your organization to fundamentally adapt and establish new business models for the future. This course represents an opportunity for organizations to learn more about the regulatory landscape about how companies can create a competitive advantage out of looking at sustainability both from a compliance perspective as well as an opportunity in the market perspective

The market really wants to hear and see information about climate and sustainability, it's information they need, it's information they really want - hey're interested in it. It's important to them and therefore this is just an opportunity for companies to give stakeholders that information. There is a significant opportunity for all companies to take a look at their existing strategy and think about over time not only the question question of compliance for the regulatory environment but also how do we integrate the potential upside of the change that is taking place. How do we truly integrate it into our strategy how do we make this a competitive advantage we look at this course absolutely from a compliance point of view. But much more interestingly how you build future-facing market leading organizations and take advantage of that opportunity.

Chi is a climate and sustainability Partner at Deloitte, with over 25 years of international experience in advising and engaging with a range of private and public sector organisations on sustainability issues and strategies, management systems, performance measurement, benchmarking and reporting and assurance. Over the years, Chi has been involved in the development of reporting frameworks like the GHG Protocol, the GRI and the Resilient Rivers Blueprint. Chi is passionate about sustainability strategy and decision-making, informed by a deep appreciation of how risks and opportunities crystalise and interact with each other through a business' value chain. He believes that disclosure can be transformative when informed by the outputs of critical thinking.

Amanda is a climate and sustainability Director at Deloitte, with extensive experience providing advisory services to clients from Not-for-Profit to large ASX listed and multi-national firms. Amanda has worked across a range of industries assisting clients with strategy, impact assessments, roadmaps to net zero, scope 3 financed emissions and reporting and disclosure. Amanda believes the introduction of these sustainability standards demonstrates a momentous step forward in reporting and disclosure, as issues of climate change and general sustainability are receiving the focus and spotlight necessary to ensure the longevity and resilience of businesses and their value chains both now and in the future.

Paul is a climate and sustainability Partner at Deloitte with over 23 years of experience working with a diverse range of clients across different sectors. He has extensive experience supporting clients implement leading sustainability frameworks over many years including the TCFD, GRI and now ISSB and CSRD. He has deep knowledge and experience in supporting clients with understanding their impacts, risks and opportunities arising from climate change as well as sustainability reporting.

Jacquie is a climate and sustainability Partner at Deloitte and is one of the firm's lead Partners on sustainability reporting.
