AI Programming with Python

As AI becomes more embedded across products, platforms and services, there is growing demand for professionals who understand how these systems are built and trained, not just how to use them. In Australia, AI, data and machine-learning skills are identified as priority workforce capabilities for the future economy (Jobs and Skills Australia, 2025). 

This course focuses on developing practical AI programming capability using Python, equipping you with the skills needed to work confidently with modern AI workflows. You’ll learn how to prepare data, implement models, and train them using established machine learning and deep learning frameworks. By the end of the course, you’ll have developed a solid foundation in AI programming and a clear understanding of how AI workflows operate in practice. 

This Agentic AI course will be delivered to you in partnership with Udacity, meaning you’ll have access to both Udacity’s learning and career services as well as RMIT Online’s course enablement support through our Learner Success Team.  Upon successful completion of the course, you will also receive an RMIT credential which can be uploaded to LinkedIn, verifying your skill mastery in the discipline. 

This course is best suited for professionals who want to build practical AI programming capability using Python and understand how AI systems work under the hood. It’s designed for: 

• Early-stage to developing technical professionals looking to extend their programming skills into AI 
• People working with data, software or analytical systems who want hands-on experience with AI workflows 
• Professionals preparing for further study or entry-level roles in AI, data or machine learning 

You may be working in roles such as junior software development, data analysis, engineering, technical research, or adjacent analytical roles where AI capability is increasingly required. 

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to: 

• Apply Python-based techniques to manage, explore, and prepare data for AI and machine learning applications. 
• Implement and train AI models using appropriate machine learning frameworks and evaluate performance against defined criteria. 
• Analyse AI workflows, data characteristics, and communicate findings through structured technical reporting 

Over 12 weeks, you’ll build practical AI programming capability using Python, progressing from core programming fundamentals into applied machine learning and deep learning workflows. You’ll work hands-on with data, implement and train models, and apply contemporary AI frameworks through structured lessons and applied projects. 

Throughout the course, you’ll complete practical coding exercises and projects designed to reflect real-world AI workflows.

Students should have experience working with and/or knowledge of the following topics:  

• Basic programming familiarity and introductory exposure to algebra. Some awareness of linear algebra and calculus is helpful but not required.
